Moonlight Rhapsodies (2024)

In June, 2024 the Albany Jazz Band recorded these nine songs at the 25th Street Recording Studio in Oakland, California. The instrumentals and vocals were selected to feature our instrumental sections, soloists, and vocalists in a selection of Big Band charts spanning eras from the 1930s up to the present. The recording session was engineered by Gabriel Shepard and his staff and conducted by Bob Levenson. Mixed and mastered by Bob Levenson.

From a review by Scott Yanow, Jazz Journalist and Historian:

The nine songs cover a wide area of music and often utilize well-known arrangements...Moonlight Rhapsodies is an easily enjoyable album that makes one want to see the Albany Jazz Big Band play live.

From a review by Victoria Boudin, Music fan:

...the Albany Jazz Big Band has released it first studio-made CD with the appropriately romantic title, Moonlight Rhapsodies. While members come and go from this...tribe of die-hard musicians, the current core has been together quite a while—some for decades. And it shows. Regardless of whether you are looking for smooth sounds, quick-stepping rhythms, or some scat-infused vocals, I’m pretty sure you will find it on this new recording. Nine cuts give you a wide-ranging look at the abilities of these 17 musicians and 3 vocalists.

Virtually Yours (2021-22)

Recorded virtually in 2021-22 during the pandemic. Musicians recorded their parts at home while listening to a skeleton version of the rhythm tracks. Assembled and mixed by Bob Levenson.

Live (2013)

Recorded live in the "old school" way (2 takes per song) in the Albany High School band room on May 29, 2013. Recording by Abram Katz and Bob Levenson. Mixed by Bob Levenson
